Veerless is honored to have recently received our recertification from B Corp (learn more in our 2024 Impact Report). Part of our joy in the B Corp community is not just being a B Corp, but in forging relationships with other B Corps, their owners and team members, and patronizing B Corps in our personal lives as team members.

In celebration of March B Corp Month, we’re highlighting five companies we love that have earned B Corp Certification. Awarded by B Lab, this certification recognizes businesses meeting high standards for social and environmental impact, transparency, and accountability. Companies undergo a rigorous B Impact Assessment and must excel in performance, governance, and public disclosure to qualify.

These five B Corps are setting the standard for sustainability in their industries, from ethically sourced materials to partnerships that encourage underrepresented populations to engage in sports. They produce some of our favorite products while driving meaningful change.

1. Athleta

Athleta aims to create positive social and environmental impact, without compromising the performance of their apparel. Since 2021, 100% of their North American store electricity has been sourced from offsite renewable solar energy, and they are committed to becoming net zero by 2050. Athleta maintains multiple fair trade and responsible certifications and uses lower-impact materials like organic cotton, recycled insulation, and other recycled materials. They’ve also given 3.3 million pre-loved garments new homes through their ThredUp Clean Out Kits since 2020. Their philanthropic efforts are equally impactful. Through the Power of She Collective, they connect, celebrate, and empower game-changing women, while their partnership with the Women’s Sports Foundation supports women and girls through ongoing grant programs that build confidence through movement and connection. Additionally, Athleta offers inclusive sizing from petite XS to 3X, recognizing that their customers come in all shapes and sizes.

2. Typology

Typology is a French, B Corp certified skincare brand that offers natural, vegan, and cruelty-free products with a minimalist approach and transparent ingredient lists. Their philosophy on raw materials considers both health and environmental impact. When selecting active ingredients, they prioritize organic farming and gentle extraction techniques, avoiding controversial solvents. Typology maintains transparency by providing detailed information on how each ingredient works, allowing consumers to make informed choices. The brand also emphasizes eco-conscious packaging, using flat glass bottles to optimize shipping volume and reduce its carbon footprint. By switching to recycled aluminum for tubes and recycled plastic for other products, Typology has cut CO2 emissions from production by up to 70%. Additionally, they launched the Black For Good movement, which brings together brands committed to giving back on Black Friday.

3. Burton Snowboards

Burton’s business practices and community engagement reflect their mission to “minimize harm to the environment, positively impact the lives we touch, and have as much fun as possible.” Their global community is committed to fair compensation, responsible product sourcing, and fostering belonging through initiatives that promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Burton has long been involved in climate advocacy and carbon reduction, but they’ve intensified their efforts by extending decarbonization across their facilities, operations, and supply chain (including comprehensive Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG accounting). They also advocate for systemic industry and policy change through partnerships with climate advocacy organizations. Burton’s collaboration with the Chill Foundation works to increase representation of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in the board sports community, providing greater access and career pathways in the outdoor industry.

4. Wild Rye

Wild Rye is more than an apparel brand; it’s a community of adventurers dedicated to empowering women and fostering confidence and connection in the outdoors. Their fabrics meet rigorous environmental and animal welfare standards, using Bluesign certified materials when possible. All products are shipped in recycled, recyclable paper mailers, with 90% packaged in recycled poly bags. Wild Rye is Climate Neutral Certified, and offers customers the option to offset their carbon footprint with each purchase. They work with both U.S. and international factories to ensure fair labor and wage practices. Through their partnership with Treet, they give customers the opportunity to resell their Wild Rye apparel, reducing landfill waste. Additionally, Wild Rye partners with 1% For the Planet, donating 1% of annual sales to nonprofits making a tangible impact.

5. Room & Board

Room & Board is committed to sustainability with clear, public goals: by 2025, they aim to use 100% sustainably sourced wood and recyclable packaging, and by 2030, to rely on 100% renewable electricity and divert 90% of operational waste from landfills. Over 90% of their furniture and décor is produced by U.S. artisans who prioritize sustainability. As part of the Urban Wood Project, Room & Board salvages reclaimed wood from homes and structures set for demolition, as well as trees removed due to disease, maintenance, or storm damage. A 100% employee-owned company, Room & Board fosters a culture of inclusion and well-being, offering staff generous health and wellness benefits. They also donate 2% of their annual profits to nonprofit organizations focused on environmental protection, community building, and the arts.
